A Night Divided

A Night Divided
by Jennifer A. Nielsen

Imagine waking up one morning and a large wall being built in your neighborhood.  Imagine if the wall divided your friends and family members. From the author of The False Prince Series, Jennifer Nielsen's historical fiction novel centers around twelve-year old Gerta, her family, and the rise of the Berlin Wall dividing East Germany and West Germany.  Although the Berlin Wall and all it's horrors did exist, the story of Gerta and her fight to rejoin her family is fictional. She must risk everything to find her father and brother after a wall divides her city in half. Will she survive to rediscover her freedom?

Revolution

Revolution

by Deborah Wiles

In Greenwood, Mississippi during the summer of 1964, Freedom fighters arrive from the northern states to register African Americans to vote. It's a tumultuous time for our nation and for Sunny, the main character. Her life is turned upside down with the arrival of a new step-mother and step-siblings. She starts acting out and gets caught sneaking into the community pool after it's closed. During her swim at the pool, she literally runs into a mystery boy and they're lives become entangled throughout the summer. It's compelling historical fiction about the Civil Rights Movement in the South, choosing right from wrong, and young people standing up for themselves.

I Survived the Attacks of Sept 11, 2001

I Will Survive

“Crash there goes one plane into the tower, sirens filling the air, Lucas stopped running, hearing the screams and seeing the smoke from the building terrorise people.”  This statement is from I Survived the Attacks of September 11, 2001 by Lauren Tarishis shows why I never stopped reading it.

The main characters are eleven-year-old Lucas and his Uncle Benny. Lucas left hishome in Manhattan to talk to his Uncle Benny about not playing football. He was walking to the fire department (where Uncle Benny works) in New York City. Then it hit the first plane, hit one of the twin towers. People screaming and running in horror, sirens filling the air. Lucas was looking for for Uncle Benny everywhere but… he couldn’t find him.

I feel the author of I Survived the Attacks of Septemper 11, 2001 by Lauren Tarishis, is trying to tell the readers “ if you believe that you can help someone or something you can do it.”

I really like the I Survived series especily this one because at the end of the book the author tells why and how she wrote the book. Also, I said it kept me wanting to read till I found out what happened to Lucas.

I Survived Hurricane Katrina

I Survived Hurricane Katrina

by Reece Ferrufino

When Barry’s family was hit by a hurricane. He found a house he could stay in tell the hurricane stopped. Then a helicopter flew over the house Barry was in. The next thing you know he found his family and survived.

By Lauren Tarshis I would tell anyone to read this book because it is a true story. Also it tells about history and one of the worst storms to hit a city. It helped me be a better reader and it kept me reading. That’s why I think you should read this book.

The main characters are Dexter , Dad ,Mom and Jeremy. Other characters are Dr. Gage . The main problem is that Dexter is having his eleventh birthday ,but there is a big storm that turns out to be a big tornado. So there is Dexter thinking if he will survive the Joplin Tornado . Will he survive?

Ghost Hawk

Have you ever heard of the great book Ghost Hawk?  Ghost Hawk is a great story written for people 12-17 by Susan Cooper.
Ghost Hawk is a historical fiction book focusing in on an Indian boy and a settler in the new world.  They form the story by showing how Indians and settlers reacted with each other.  In the beginning the boy goes on an adventure that would keep him out for three months in the passage to man hood only to come home and find every one dead.  He then finds some of his family in a new village. Then when he goes to delver a message he finds a boy… very white to him… and his dad… and a bullet in his chest.  This page turning intense book is a great mystery and the end… is the best… and worst…

A Coal Miner's Bride

A Coal Miner’s Bride

In the beginning of A Coal Miner’s Bride, Anetka meets a man named Leon a man of Cecar’s the president of the place where they live. He torments her, makes fun of her ,and is mean to her. My favorite part is when she moves to America because her father found her a husband. A year after she got married, her husband died in a mine. At the end of the book, she married Leon.

I liked this book because it was a heartwarming story about an 13 year old young lady that had a very rough life. When she married Stanley ,she wasn’t very happy but when he died in the coal mine she also wasn’t happy.

The main character is named Anetka Kaminska who is 13 years old.S he is a fair person with a warm heart. She cared for Stanley's girls when he died in the mine.
